One of the candidates last night at the #MidPenForum said that we couldn’t control who got guns and that this was a mental health issue.
I absolutely believe we can do much more to stop gun violence. We need to start treating guns like the weapons of war they are. #VA01

@Vangie4Congress Mr Santana, i don’t agree at all with how you couched candidate Williams’ response. Actually I find it a bit of a spin. I don’t know either of you but as a voter for VA1, I’ll be looking for transparency, not politics when I vote.2 réponses 0 Retweet 1 j'aime -

Sir I disagree. She said the NRA didn’t put the gun in his hands. It’s reported the NRA gave his school a $10k grant for their rifle team. She says we can’t control who has guns. We control access to alcohol and drugs. She uses the same GOP talking points about mental health

As far as guns...I support universal background checks, closing the gun show loophole and requiring periodic recertification. That's definitely not part of the GOP playbook. Mischaracterizing your opponent's positions as a cheap way to try to get ahead, however, is.

Do you support re-instating the assault weapons ban and banning bump stocks?

I support the ORIGINAL Feinstein assault weapons ban which was more stringent than the 1994 negotiated ban. Bump stocks shouldn’t be allowed, either.

Sen. Feinstein reintroduced it in 2017 and again in the days after Parkland. Also, will you commit to denounce the NRA and reject their donations? Thanks!

1. I will support an assault weapons ban. 2. I won’t take NRA money. 3. I denounce the practices/policies of the NRA, but we also have to engage in dialogue with NRA members as part of a solution. W/out common ground, gun policy will always shift based on who wins elections.

I appreciate your quick responses. Thank you! One point, though...I’m in the camp that says you can’t negotiate with terrorists, and I believe the NRA is a terrorist organization. They will never moderate their positions. They haven’t even commented on Parkland.
