A few days ago, I held an open conversation on race and what is happening in our country. This public conversation had to be closed because we were ambushed with racist attacks. The two hour long conversation was delayed due to the racial slurs used at the beginning of the call.

We expect the same slurs to be used in the beginning of the next one too. These people were using obscenities and racial slurs repeatedly. As disgusted as we were, we refused to be intimidated. Our diverse group stood strong and we found and removed the problem audience members.

All of this effort would cause most groups to quit. I realized, as we persevered, that over the past four years, as hatred has become more bold, it is now realizing we refuse to cower and they will not win. Hate will never stop the progress of change.

My change does not come with a price tag. It comes with a commitment to put people first. By putting people first, we have a government that takes steps towards healing and progress for all.

It takes only one voice to sing a melody but it takes a choir to sing in harmony. The voices are loud and singing together. We Shall Overcome Someday and now is that day. Before, we had a conversation. Now we will have them every day until the changes are manifest.
