How do we convince white students they aren’t being “marginalized” when they aren’t centered?!? This matters A LOT in the student = customer ethos where faculty pay and job security depends on positive evals.

How do you convince non-white students currently? This question alone centers them while dismissing everyone else. White students are not the only customers and if you’re creating an equitable learning space the non-white students will show up in the evals balancing the negative.

I tell my students that we all need to accept that the US is formed with White Supremacy in mind. This is not a debatable topic and to keep that in mind while we learn history.

This is why I teach at a school with a 90% Black student body. Trying to do this at school at with a significant amount of white students or administration is oppressive and depressing. It’s an uphills battle that I never want to experience again.
