The only bill I have ever received was $40 for opting for a private room when my youngest was born via c-section. That said, there are plenty of out of pocket expenses ppl have to spend depending on their health conditions.

I grew up in Ontario. My family is still there. A guaranteed basic level of care. But it’s absolutely underfunded and the time people spend waiting for care is heartbreaking. Rural areas are especially vulnerable.

Have never had a bill, and I’ve only used emergency. My husband had gall bladder surgery - 0$. My father had massive stroke, 3 months hospital - 0$, 6 months in patient physio - 0$, specialized wheel chair - 0$, 10 years home care - 0$. I could go on. Drugs get pricey though.

I have a chronic rare cancer and see specialists and my family doctor regularly. I pay for medication but never to see any of the doctors or for any of the CTs or MRIs.

If you are going to the hospital or your family doctor, there will be no bills. Prescriptions are different but we pay far less for our medication than the US. Vision and dental care are not included. However, through my employer, my benefits plan covers all of those things.

Reading all these replies like

. Meanwhile in the US, I had a 30 minute ER visit for 3 stitches this summer for my son and now owe $1500.00 between hospital and physician billing and that’s WITH medical insurance + supplemental insurance. -
My mom was diagnosed with cancer about 5 years ago. Chemo, surgery, rehab, meds, follow up visits, etc. All covered. Only thing we paid for was parking at the hospital

No bills. Prescriptions less expensive. We also have private healthcare for dental, eyes, counseling, osteo. More wait time. But my uncle in the US w/o healthcare recently put off getting broken leg fixed for a week. That seems like too much wait time to me.

It’s pretty accurate. And any “wait times” I have/am going through have been equaled by my US family who often wait until something gets “bad enough” to see a doctor...
