One of the things I learned in childhood that always stuck with me was that a tree can not grow tall without wind. The swaying and the weather makes it grow tall and strong.

Not sure about mysterious, it's the wind blowing.

When the wind blows on so many types of us, I feel there is much more knocking of branches. Mayhaps therein lies the mystery?

CROWN SHYNESS (also canopy disengagement, canopy shyness, or intercrown spacing) is a phenomenon observed in some tree species, in which the crowns of fully stocked trees do not touch each other, forming a canopy with channel-like gaps.
