Opinion poll about Bottom Navigation and back button behavior. What do you expect to happen when you click back in an android app with tabs?
So it the results are in. Seems like an even split between the back button should do something with tabs (going back to main tab preferrably) and the back button not doing anything. I think I'll go with the first approach personally.
I would never think the back button should affect tabs. Just returning to the previous level or if you're on the main screen, letting you know that another back press will take you out of the app.
IMO those toasts with "Press back again to exit the app" are one of the more annoying UXs around

Who needs tabs anyway 
I want to say 3 but then every time Settings is a L1 tab item, I tap back and the app closes, I get pissed off like hell.
So my brain would say 3, but my heart would say "Back to the previous tab" and we all know that you always follow your heart
Based on user behaviour it seems that while the guidelines say that back doesn't affect bottom tabs, going to main tab before exiting the app improves the UX.
That's the impression I get as well. Seems like it's the best solution out of all of them.
