Hey friends, I hate to do this but I promised myself to stop hiding things and be honest. I have a big ask for 2020:

  2. Basically, Steven Moffat, along with J.J. Abrams, should only be allowed to write and produce the first episode of any series and someone needs to just tell them no and hire someone else to complete it for them.

  3. Watched "Dracula" on Netflix last night, and went exactly as I predicted based upon every other Steven Moffat show - the first two episodes present intriguing questions, surprise you, and are really interesting....and the last one is such a complete sh**show.

  4. I've had some friends reach out and offer some support following my general despair about the future of the world and such, and it's amazing how much that little bit can help. It's almost like we're social creatures that need community and other human beings to survive?

  5. I haven't even considered the role of "expressive" donations like these, which reminds me of different kinds of social media streamers that get donations in that "expressive" way. Modern politics is basically a Twitch stream....I'm going to go vomit now 🤮

The question I want to scream incoherently at candidates: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO STOP PUTTING CHILDREN IN CONCENTRATION CAMPS???!!!?!!

Also, 1) You probably don't want to become an academic unless and until we can roll back the neoliberalization of higher education. I'm serious. 2) Keep in mind that a huge number of political scientists wind up outside academia, in jobs that don't require a PhD. </thread>

This is why it is crucial that we protect safe and accessible abortion services

So...yeah....how do you survive? Frankly, my experience as someone who grew up in white trash poverty is that people don't - they fall apart, landing in destitution or death. I'm looking for some path to resilience and survival for myself and my wife, but having trouble.

I thought I might even be able to make a living in this kind of work, trying to build peace and fight for a more just world. Instead, I'm on the border of extreme poverty and really frightened on a personal level about what I will do in the coming years to get by.

I realize this is a consequence of privilege - most of my life I could by into the vision of American ideals and the aspirations of the institutions. I could imagine that I could contribute to helping folks through my work buttressed by the structure these institutions gave.

I'm struggling lately. I'm curious, how do people of color in the US and people living in countries with even more dysfunctional politics than the US endure and not just give up entirely knowing that generally their institutions will betray them?

My senator is so unprincipled, one of his former teachers felt the need to call him out. I really hope we can kick him out of office because he has been awful at representing a lot of us.

I can't tell if it's just my depression talking, my personal challenges I'm facing, or the stress of the momentum of the world, or if this despair is completely justified and I should just give up now.

Is anyone else falling into utter despair and seriously questioning whether their life plans make any sense given the likely trajectory of the next few decades, but also feeling utterly incapable of flipping over to the life that reality is likely going to demand from us?

At this point, from my view, we have as much to fear from people telling us democracy will hold as from those threatening it. The insistence of the comfortable that everything is still fine has led to every authoritarian rise to power in recent memory.

This would be a good metaphor for how my PhD journey feels. 😂

This has been the single biggest change in my psychology since I began coming out - I feel powerful and free when I cast aside being ashamed and scared of being seen as myself. Accepting myself and being open has allowed me to finally feel like a whole person.
