It would be so much better for the cause if it was the progressive party pushing it, though, and not the far-right populist party. I'm all about banning it for ethical reasons, but this makes it sound like something else entirely. :-/

In Denmark and Iceland, the progressive parties are the ones pushing it. You have to keep in mind that "far-right" in Sweden is essentially an American Republican. The Overton window is so skewed in that country. This is a good thing though. We need the right AND left for a ban!
-
All Scandinavian countries run on coalitions. The only way circumcision will ever be banned in any of them is if some right-wing and left-wing parties form a coalition together. Denmark and Iceland progressives need to get Sweden progressives on this, & vice versa for the right.

I searched for that tweet using the term "uncircumcised" and accidentally liked it in the process of opening the tweet. I removed the like in two seconds flat. Thanks for going to my pinned tweet in an attempt to character assassinate me though when I came to you on good faith.pic.twitter.com/kVVQx7riXx

Good faith? I'm being attacked for being against FGM and this is your response?pic.twitter.com/giyM1MC8K5

Arguing with anecdotal or bad evidence WEAKENS your argument, and when cut women like
@CuttingVoices read your argument, they think you're CONDESCENDING to them. Just argue based on genital autonomy: women have a right to their WHOLE bodies. Also, that guy is a troll. -
Tell that to our government that's who teaches us whenever we women go to Iraq or Afghanistan or any Middle Eastern country. It is their research not mine you're barking up the wrong tree
-
Well I'll have to see if I can find information on field manuals online to find out what their sources are. Granted, the American government has a vested interest in making FGM as evil as possible to justify male circumcision, which is why "no pleasure" is trotted out.

I know it's off topic, but which are the Scandinavian countries? Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark. Finland?
-
Not off topic at all! It also includes Greenland (though it is a territory of Denmark), and Finland is sometimes not considered a Scandinavian country (genetically and linguistically), but their ombudsman signed the joint declaration.http://jfst.se/nyheter/joint-statement-anti-circumcision-legislation-iceland/ …

Nordic countries better more inclusive descriptor than Scandinavian countries. Fennoscandian to just include Finns. Technically Scandinavian Mountains run through Norway, Sweden, Finland-geographically Scandinavian Peninsula includes Norway, Sweden, Finland-not Denmark or Icelandpic.twitter.com/1bqcEixBjL

But there is no such thing as "medical ritual genital mutilation"......so it's not really a ban at all.

We live in a strange time in Europe, when the far-right populist parties are the reasonable ones.
