just to clarify, my 2019 tax returns need to be filed by May 1st? I know federal is not due until July 15th.

It's a hang up in the Code of Virginia. Some things can't be waived w/o General Assembly authorization.

This makes no sense! The IRS has extended deadline July 15th, but If I still have to go to my accountant to file Virginia by May 1st, I may as well do federal at the same time. Thanks for nothing.

Why can’t filing and payment be extended to July 15, as the Feds have done? Federal return must be done before state can be done. More sensible to have same deadlines.

This is stupid. If people can’t get to their tax preparer because they have been ordered to close, and the federal government recognized that, why would you not extend similarly? Total Virginia move.
