What's in the atmosphere that will affect images? Lots of things are possible, including water & ozone, and also aerosols like dust, ash, and sea salt. We'll do a detailed study of what's present above Cerro Pachón, and how often conditions change.

Analyzing the data from the spectrograph helps scientists understand how light from an object is affected by the atmosphere. The data produced by this telescope (AuxTel) during the survey will be used to make data more accurate.

The Auxiliary Telescope (AuxTel) will measure the properties of the sky above . The AuxTel spectrograph disperses light from an observed object into component wavelengths—the same wavelengths that the main telescope will observe.

Like many other components of , AuxTel is a collaborative effort. Getting AuxTel and the spectrograph online involved staff from and other Rubin Obs team members contributing from various locations.

The Auxiliary Telescope spectrograph made its first observations of astronomical objects this week on Cerro Pachón! This "first light" images represents real, usable data for Rubin Observatory, and is the results of years of hard work by lots of people

. The 's Inouye Solar Telescope images the sun in more detail than we’ve ever before. Close up, these images show, for the first time, the smallest features ever seen on the solar surface, some as small as 30km. Background: NISP/GONG.

The 5-metric-ton-capacity crane that installed the azimuth track in November is back on the summit, and a joint team from Rubin Observatory, Burger Crane, and is planning big lifts for the Telescope Mount Assembly. Exciting work ahead!

How much do YOU love the M1M3 mirror cell? Here are two employees, who helped build and test the cell (the steel structure that will support the 8.4-meter mirror), showing off their M1M3 cell tattoos! Now that's dedication....

This week at the on Cerro Pachón, the M1M3 mirror cell (teal) & M1M3 surrogate mirror (white) were moved into place below the upper section of the coating chamber (silver) for fit testing. Here they are, all together for the first time!
