See - this is how little I've considered this. I've gotta think the traffic and clicks still nets YT something, even if it's not a direct ad. If anything, Patreon just got their payday (good thing they listen to their users), because a ton of people are going to flock to that.
Other than the potential to keep people engaged on the YT platform (which would increase the likeliness that they then watch a monetized video next) non-monetized videos cost YT money (i.e. hosting space and bandwidth). Agree on your Patreon point for sure.
