We are not concerned with winning popularity contests or gaining the attention of National Organizations whose board members don’t live in our state, never enrolled their children in our schools, never had to contend with the limitations of the Maryland healthcare exchange,...

or never had to worry about their home on the Bay in the wake of a hurricane. They don’t know our struggles and they don’t know our people.

Progressive campaigns are won on the backs of the people at the heart of the matter. We ought never conform to the tools of the systems we seek to dismantle in order to effect change.

Audre Lorde said it best when she said, “the master's tools will never dismantle the master's house. They may allow us to temporarily beat him at his own game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change.”

Outside organizations who assess viability by measuring style over substance and dollars raised over lives changed have the ability to strip power from the communities they seek to support.

This campaign will continue to fight for our values of Honesty, Inclusivity and Family for all Southern Marylanders. We will continue to uplift the stories of the people I’ve served as a teacher, a lawyer, and a community organizer.

We will continue to give a voice to the stories shared by local electeds, community members, & undocumented youth who call MD home.
