A big reason why Seattle is getting a new waterfront highway is for the convenience of motorist ferry users even though most Colman Dock ferry riders are passengers who walk, roll, and bike on.

Congratulations, Seattle: You built the equivalent of Portland's old Harbor Drive, the waterside highway we demolished 50 years ago to build Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The viaduct eyesore is gone, but the car sewer lives on. Way to go!

There seems to be a segment of people who want to argue what a highway is because the idea of having a waterfront highway in a city is obviously awful. We hate to break it, but this is a highway no matter how you cut it. The powers that be blew it.

People just don’t like acknowledging that induced demand is a thing, especially the powers that be. Constrain the supply of car space and people will adjust accordingly. That’s what should have happened on the waterfront.

Boston spent $25 billion to burry it's massive elevated highway, build a park... and create 6 lanes of surface level traffic...
