City Council Fails in First Attempt to Pass Emergency Bill Setting Up Digital Design Review

CM Lewis introduced an amendment to keep the super-green Living Buildings in traditional design review (if they're already in it) rather switching to administrative review. However it failed 3-6, with only Herbold and Pedersen joining him.

No surprise: CM Pedersen said he's still opposed to the emergency ordinance.

"I was elected to stop displacement," CM Morales said. "Making the development process easier rarely helps the communities I represent." Still, Morales said she was a yes, but added this was the last concession she'd make to developers.

CM Herbold said she looked for a way to support the ordinance, but not having her amendment included was a dealbreaker. She argued it's not consistent with the governor's order to expedite affordable housing.

How meta! Herbold's argument is that the council hasn't followed the right process to streamline its design review process.
