A 1936 redlining map by Knoll Company shows much of Capitol and the Central District in red for hazardous. That means residents would be denied loans for home and businesses forcing disinvestment.
A final precinct results map shows that Sawant did very well in west of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and south of Mercer Street. This nearly the same boundaries as the redlining map. (Map created by Jason Weill.)

The same pattern is present in all districts. In D1, Lisa Herbold took the urban villages and middle class areas, while Phil Tavel took wealthy areas with Puget Sound views. 55.7% to 43.9% was the final tally. #SEAelex #waelex
A lot of blue precincts for Lisa Herbold. Tavel took precincts near Puget Sound, where majestic views drive up property values. (Visualization by Jason Weill)

Progressive council candidates did well in 2019--except in D4 where few urban villages (UV) exist. In 2015, we pointed out the UV gaps and proposed adding more, particularly in D4. Comp Plan isn't known for changing quickly tho... #RezoneSeattle #Equity
