Message us if you want to spend a lot of time volunteer lobbying and planning and education about public broadband in Seattle in 2023 and 2024? Our group has gotten pretty small, we need dedicated volunteers willing to be SUPER focused to get Public Broadband in Seattle in 2024!
Hello Seattle!
Let's get public broadband passed in 2024!
Lots to be done between now and then.

We are having a meeting on Tuesday, February 7 at 7:30 pm.

You do not have to be a Seattle resident to engage in the engagement hub, voices of people already priced out of the city MUST be part of this discussion.
SHARE THE CITIES FANS / FOLLOWERS / COMMUNITY -- we are moving to Mastodon and helping run a Seattle / King County instance that our volunteers have set up.
Today is #GISDay, a yearly celebration of the technology of geographic information systems. In honor of GIS Day, Seattle IT would like to highlight the Winter Weather Response Map located on the City’s associated Winter Weather Response page.
Share The Cities Action Fund did so much great work in the last year. Can you help them finish the year strong?
They are pausing their work, but still need support at this time to wrap up the year.
REMINDER to ask for digital equity & municipal broadband in Seattle's future land use plans. Building equitable internet access is a LAND USE ISSUE. Seattle's comprehensive plan should include building municipal internet access in the city's study.

Join us under the net for a night of food, drink, and dance as we raise our paddles to TEN YEARS as an organization.
Let's celebrate and reflect on 10 years of advocating alongside one another in support of our communities of color, partner organizations, parents, and students!
Grassroots advocacy work is difficult, especially when it involves directly lobbying officials which takes time to build relationships, trust and build power and trust with like-minded organizations to show a big coalition is behind community / public broadband.
What is risky is for every level of our government to continue to pour public dollars into corporate monopolies that have failed consumers over and over and over again, and who also use their profits to influence elections and electeds.
We have a majority of electeds at the local level who say that a public broadband option is something they would support. This is a popular issue with voters. Yes it is expensive, but don't believe the corporate propaganda that it is "risky" for a government to take on broadband.
... this work cannot just happen through education, alone. A robust political campaign must occur to create public pressure to push back on the non-stop corporate lobbying that happens from the telecom industry. They are a formidable obstacle to community led solutions.
There are decent opportunities with King County EasTrail fiber, Port of Seattle, and Seattle City Light to all provide community / public broadband options, to get our public money away from corporate monopolies. But without funding for grassroots organizations to lobby ...
We are no longer meeting and our working group is dormant. We did not have adequate funding for Share The Cities to continue supporting us. It would be fantastic if an organization within King County would take on Community / Public Broadband as a top priority.
Upgrade King County
We helped pass state legislation, made an internet access zine that Seattle Public Libraries found useful, we helped educate electeds and other leaders about public broadband, we convened important conversations among various experts. What's next?
