So many questions. Do they reproduce themselves? Any built in constraints on what they can be programmed to do, either singly or collaboratively?

No indication there is any replication mechanism - that would require more complexity, I believe, so no bio-greygoo from this version. Current configs will be very limited in what they can do - more flexibility in an individual design would again require greater complexity.
