We are absolutely delighted that our former lecturer Abdulrazak Gurnah has been awarded the #NobelPrize for literature - truly inspirational! 👏

#NobelPrize laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah was born in 1948 and grew up on the island of Zanzibar but arrived in England as a refugee at the end of the 1960’s. Until his recent retirement he was Professor of English and Postcolonial Literatures at the University of Kent, Canterbury.

Rest in peace Archbishop Desmond Tutu. It was our privilege to award the Archbishop an honorary degree in Civil Law in the 1970s - our deepest condolences to his loved ones on this sad day.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, who has died aged 99. The thoughts of everyone at the University are with Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family at this time.
