What's kinda crazy to me is that IL-13 voted slightly more for it than the suburban IL-06! I know it's got Champaign, Springfield, and Bloomington, but that really shows how much rich suburbanites came out against this referendum.

Has no chance, my area didn’t go blue for Obama in 08 and Biden won it by 6 votes, now we’re going super hard on municipal races

Why did that fail? Also, does Illinois one of those states that require 2/3 or something ridiculous to raise taxes?

Constitutional prohibition against graduated income tax.

Do you think this was the reason democrats did bad in state legislative races and got crushed in IL13?
-
It wasn't the main reason, but it was definitely part of the reason. IL-13 I attribute to Trump turning out the rural areas that have swung hard to Trump, but the legislative races is probably a mix of this and just Mike Madigan's Madigan-ness.

It actually needed 60% of votes cast on the referendum or a majority of total votes cast in the election as it was a constitutional amendment. Didn’t come close.

Came here to say this. Seems like an important detail for context. Thank you
