to simulate scenarios of GHG emission reduction using a wide range of policy levers & see the feedback effects on jobs, health, govt revenues, energy imports, etc. Here's an intro video by
& partners to compare climate commitments made by countries (NDCs, LTS, Net Zero) for your topic of interest - e.g. links with SDGs, finance estimates, loss & damage concerns, gender & youth. You can download raw data & watch demos.
I will be speaking in this program this weekend. Here is a list of the #data#dashboards I will be showing to discuss opportunities and challenges for climate action in various sectors.

The #Budget focus on scientific management of dry waste and wet waste is important. Equally important are the opportunities to create decent jobs in waste management esp. for women - like this initiative to train women to drive waste collection vehicles
A picture to end the year with!
Over 800 women across Karnataka are driving waste collection trucks in gram panchayats. Women's self help groups are being trained to run solid waste units as micro-enterprises through formal arrangements with panchayats. #womenslivelihoods
On the urban side, #Budget2023 called for incentives and reforms to improve the creditworthiness of cities for municipal bonds. This should include climate considerations through KPIs and capacity building (as the NIUA's CITIIS 2.0 program is doing in a few states).
On the rural side, it is startling that the ILO's recent report on jobs in nature-based solutions found that of about 75 mn NBS jobs worldwide, about 80% are in India's MGNREGA - which is used for watershed management, plantations, etc. #Budget
The planned framework for pumped hydro as energy storage is timely. Of all renewable energy options, rooftop solar PV needs the least land and creates the most jobs per MW – targeted support and innovative business models can unlock its full potential. #Budget
With 100 mn+ workers, MSMEs=jobs. Rs 9000 crore (~$1 bn) of credit infusion for #MSMEs is very important because they have so much potential to upgrade to energy efficiency & renewable energy - measures that will save energy & pay back costs - but lack access to upfront capital.
1- Viability gap financing as has been announced in this #Budget for battery storage. We also need it for offshore wind & hydrogen electrolysers.
2- Credit risk guarantees to reduce the cost of capital
3- Demand aggregation as was done for LEDs and electric buses
Rs 37000 crores for green energy comes to about $4 bn. The investment required for green energy (RE, EVs, GH2, battery storage) is to the tune of $30 bn a year on average in this decade. This can come mostly from private sources. But this budget allocation can be catalytic by...
A 100 years ago, the Indian #Budget was called a gamble on the monsoon. Now we look to it for policies that will shield us from a changing climate. Far from a year's balancing of revenues & expenditures, we look to it for the drivers of economic growth over the coming decades. 🧵
shares his views on the credit guarantee for MSMEs through a revamped scheme to be effective from 1 April 2023 announced in the #Budget2023 earlier today.
A boost to #MSME#CreditGuaranteeScheme with the Infusion of 9000 crores to corpus (can mobilise addnl collateral-free credit of up to 2LCr) & reduction in cost of credit by 1% can strengthen MSME’s ability to undertake much-needed capital investments in the sector #Budget2023
#Budget2023 credit guarantee for MSMEs with capital infusion of 9000cr is welcome step. Credit growth was over 30.6% during Jan-Nov '22, and is expected to grow further with these enabling measures. This enables MSMEs to diversify their operations and create more jobs.
Register now for tomorrow’s joint training with #ClimateWatch and #SystemsChangeLab. We’ll explore new features and data on the platforms and learn how to gain insights, generate visuals, and more to better understand progress toward climate action.

How will the conflict in Europe impact the global transition to clean energy?
To replace Russian natural gas, Europe is securing more Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) imports AND investing in renewable energy, putting the achievability of climate targets into question [2/6]
#TheElephantWhisperers is a fascinating short film about respect, love and bonds between humans and animals. Not surprised with the #Oscars2023 nod. Must watch.

Albany, North Shore has recorded 75% of its normal summer rain.
It is possible that parts of Auckland will receive an entire summer's worth of rain in a day.
