A few days ago, people ran with an article about Walgreens closing their San Francisco stores. They came to the conclusion that the store closures were because of shoplifting even though (years ago) Walgreens had already announced a scale back of locations nationwide

Data shows that Shoplifting is in fact down in Sam Francisco. It’s currently pacing to be lower than pre pandemic levels.

(Actually correction)False connections between big name stores like Walgreens and smaller mom-pop stores were made: come find out that there’s actually no spike in shoplifting for mom-pop shops. During the pandemic, Walgreens stores did see a slight spike but overall no city wide
