It was s matter of time. Replacing people with automation comes down to a matter of Greed. If Uber was more concerned about Humans being able to support themselves rather than lining the pockets of a few, this would not have happened.

A tragic accident happened. We don’t even know the details, so how can u even blame the technology? Just two weeks ago in NYC, a lady ran a red light and killed two children crossing in a crosswalk.
-
Following the logic of those saying the program should be stopped, perhaps they will respond to the accident you mentioned by demanding all women be stopped from driving.

-
That is an idiotic statement, totally in contrast to the argument made. Start thinking for a change.

So tell me
@Uber_Comms. WHAT'S THE NEED FOR FOR SELF DRIVING CARS? other than cutting people out of making money. There is no need for self driving cars. This could have been avoided by having a person behind the wheel. You just took someone's loved one. -
One of the largest needs for autonomous vehicles is because humans are terrible drivers. While computer systems aren't flawless they are MUCH more accurate than humans and also don't get distracted by texting, looking at signs on the side of the road, or suffer from road rage.
-
If this was about having the best drivers, these self-driving car companies would focus on having human drivers assisted by AI's, not trying to replace the humans entirely. Every study of every AI so far has routinely shown that AI-assisted humans are vastly superior to AI itself
-
The fact that these companies are trying to remove humans from the equation is about greed and arrogance. These software engineers have a god-complex and want to prove that they can do anything, plus they don't have to pay employees if everything is AI.

Although very sad situation. In the end it is the fault of the pedestrian, they make crosswalks for a reason. That's why it's illegal to jaywalk.
-
Has there been any information about the pedestrian not being in a crosswalk?

So who gets the ticket?
-
The person in the driver's seat should be arrested & charged with vehicular manslaughter
