Curious: is there ever a possibility with high-output fissures like this becoming their own permanent source/flow of lava? IOW, could fissure 8 say, become it’s own volcano or crater?

Yes, this is a possibility, and is quite common for these fissure eruptions - activity tends to become focused at one vent. It's the reason there is a

That's my kind of comparison. The scientific coverage of Bardabunga was far more advanced than for
#LERZ. There were 3D time-lapse models of every tremor that you could flip and rotate, view from any angle you liked, and watch the lava make its way to the vent.
