  1. This photo of a ringtail visiting a water trough was taken at a national wildlife refuge. They're found throughout the American Southwest & most of Mexico. Often called ringtail cats, these solitary mammals are actually more like the raccoons. Photo by USFWS

  4. Here's another for this weekend. This juvenile flammulated owl was found by firefighters in the hallow of a tree stricken by lightning and caught fire. Before chopping down the tree, the owl was moved to a nearby tree. Credit: US Forest Service
