Seal Island NWR is home to one of the largest tern breeding colonies in Maine, supporting over 2,000 pairs of Arctic and common terns. The refuge's biologists band Arctic tern chicks each season to better understand their movements from year to year.pic.twitter.com/32GBOtOYhq

This summer, an exciting discovery was made when SAFRING, the South African Bird Ringing Unit, reached out to Service biologists to report a bird band recovered on the coast of Transkei. Records show the band belonged to an Arctic tern, banded at Seal Island NWR in Maine!pic.twitter.com/iLHJqxFxw2

Our world is so big and vast, and sometimes we miss the little details. Take a closer look at this Monarch butterfly with us! See its intricate spots, fuzzy body, and the texture of its wings. If you look hard, you can see pollen grains on its wings! Photo:

With eyes positioned high on their heads, Sonoran pronghorn can spot movement from several miles away. For this reason, these shy animals prefer broad, open habit where they can easily see predators, and race away at top speeds of up to 60 mph. Photo: Cassidy Motahari/USFWSpic.twitter.com/0h5mxhw2iD
