for a 4k machine, could it have a sort of sensor for when something touches the end or gets underneath the tread? Or is creating resistance? I was amazed at how table saws stop almost instantly when contacting flesh. The safety key that most treds have wouldn't have helped here

Riiight! How long have treadmills been around? Since the 1930s? Not everything is kid friendly. You would have to recall millions of products equipment to achieve that.
