Sounds like a no-brainer to me. Along with social workers, and addictions specialists in the medical staff. Allow the public to get better access to resources. As I’ve seen situations where folks don’t know they’re eligible for help

Would have to be managed very carefully so as not to result in a pile of first responder bodies. Anywhere but the USA sure, but that pesky 2nd amendment.

Here's the thing, the police are being sent on a lot of calls that the medical services and fire departments should be handling. The problem is, for whatever reason, fire and EMS refuse to respond to a lot of calls unless the police go in first.
