This headline makes it sound like this is some random dude whose guns are being taken. This is a man that, according to a judge, poses a threat to the safety of the community. How is this a bad thing?

And the precedent for making it more difficult for someone mentally unstable who is a threat to the safety of others is fine with me, thanks. I don’t want everyone’s weapons taken away, but there has to be some sort of common sense laws to help protect people.

But it's not an arbitrary decision. If our judicial system, with a standard of proof and finding cause, determined that an individual is a danger and s/he has weapons that should be taken away, thats a pretty arduous process to get to that determination.
