"I think if you looked at these disproportionately female professions, like teaching, people have basically been exploited for years because they care about kids." https://usat.ly/2pYtmBS  #oklahomateacherwalkout

You don’t think teachers care about kids?? Very few would go into this profession knowing they’ll be making countless economic, time, and emotional sacrifices each year that go unnoticed by parents, adminstration, and the general public if they weren’t in this for the kids.

Obviously that's the initial Drive, yes. But it soon turns into "me me me". Not even for the majority but for enuff. And definitely for the people at the top who continuously tell these teachers how bad they have it when no one else in America in any profession has it that good.

Very few college-educated careers in 🇺🇸 would be viewed as “having it good” with employees on a steady diet of more clients than they can meaningfully serve; disrespect from most clients, public, superiors, and govt; paying out-of-pocket for basic necessities; disappearing ...

benefits despite paying for them since day one; threats of retribution for speaking out; mandatory unpaid OT = more hrs/yr than a full-time employee in any other industry; laughably outdated equipment and materials; crumbling facilities; out-of-pocket continuing education ...

requirements; job duties that even the parents of their clients wouldn’t want; and a public that shuns them for demanding respect and a living wage for “me, me, me” ... all for a job where love for their clients keeps them from a career change.

Elderly white men see teaching as on the same level as clerical work because it is dominated by women. They think it is easy, and of little value, because it doesn't make any money for them. #oklahomateacherwalkout
