This could be the largest civil rights settlement the state has ever reached.

I sort of understand how this is good. She never would have been injured at all if SHE didn't try to hang herself.......They were negligent in not responding. But if she was not hanging then she would not have damaged her brain from lack of oxygen..Am I the only one? lol

Very true Nicole and I understand that. But she was the one who put herself in harms way. This would not have happend if she hadn't attempted suicide

She was a minor in their custody. Supervised custody at that. They failed to supervise.

Very true Rayne, but she is the one who tried to kill herself, which put her in harms way. They completely neglected to do their job, but this wouldn't have happend if not for her

She buzzed them. Maybe it's because she needed help with suicidal thoughts and they chose to ignore her buzz request. As much as a state employee might want to ignore a minor they can not. Would this be a question in a mental facility? She needed some mental health help.

Thanks now wish some others would get it. Empathy and compassion are becoming rare. I grew up in states custody. Kids like this get lost in the shuffle and, seriously, not to many pay attention at all.

What I dont understand, why turn on the call light if yo r going to commit suicide ? So the term turned on the call light then hung themselves? So they didn’t want to commit suicide but tried anyway ... huh 🤔

He is a she actually. When you lock up a minor you are suppose to supervise that minor. They failed to supervise her not to mention she had some obvious issues that probably warranted more monitoring.

So, yeah, it's cool to wanna kill yourself because you made a mistake in your life and you can't deal with the consequences of your own actions. Yep, the state and it's tax paying citizens have to pay for the damage your attempt caused you. Sounds logical to me. 🙄😑😒

Suicide is a mental health issue. Was she evaluated correctly? Minor in your custody and you are responsible for their health and well being and that includes their mental health. Answer the buzzer when she pushes it and they might have found out she needed mental health help.

I agree about suicide. But staff have hundreds of other INMATES to attend to that are more dangerous criminals or have worse issues. Also, she made that choice, no one forced her into it. The reason she was locked up, the suicide attempt, her choices.

If she was never evaluated or incorrectly evaluated then, yes, it's their error.

She may have told counselors that she wasn't going to commit suicide or thought about suicide. How can they properly evaluate if no one is saying how they feel to avoid being put in the "turtle suit".
