grown ass adults making decisions to hurt kids. step back folks and assess the situation. of course this boy should have been allowed to complete his project with modifications...he should have been lifted up and encouraged. #disgrace

Becoming an Eagle scout isn't a participation trophy. Sometimes life is not fair. It would definitely be unfair to the millions who qualified to start handing it out as a participation trophy.

Read the article and you will see he couldn't complete the required tasks so he isn't able to pass them. Life isn't fair, that doesn't make me a jerk, just a realist.

This doesn’t make sense. A scout has until age 18 to complete his eagle project. I know because my sons working on his. Why would they strip him of badges at 15??? Sue for more $, much much much more $$

What a shame. The Boy Scouts of America has become an intolerant, out of touch organization. The way they are treating this young man is inexcusable. This organization has lost it moral compass.

If how he went about completing the tasks to earn his rank is a problem now, then with due respect this should have been addressed before he started. The BSA should have made clear exactly what was expected; now it’s like Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown.

Sounds like the local scout council has some insensitive fools currently serving in leadership roles.

Maybe Scouting should have a separate "Special Eagle" award, just like we have the "Special Olympics"?

I’m sorry for this young man, but the achievement of becoming an Eagle Scout is not a participation trophy. Most scouts never achieve it and not for lack of effort!
-
I think the difference here is the goal posts have been moved. The boy hasn’t failed to achieve, he’s prevented from participating.

There are two paths for a special needs scout to achieve Eagle. He can chose the Scout with special needs which has no age limit for achieving eagle and also has requirements designed for his special needs. Sounds like the parents refused to go this path

As an Eagle scout myself, it appears he was able to complete his merit badges and start on his eagle project with a different set a of requirements from every other scout. Should have never been aloud to do anything if he had less requirements in getting badges and rank.
-
Why? I worked very hard, why should someone get an easier path. I'm all for inclusion but not special rules that apply only to him. But the article didn't go into much detail about what was changed for him to attain the eagle scout rank. If it wasn't much then good for him.
-
Do you have the development difficulties he has? No, you don’t? Well, then, buddy, you have a bigger advantage than he does. Your and the BSA’s attitude is petty and spiteful.
-
Not correct. I worked very hard to achieve what I did and he is getting and easier route. If everyone wants inclusion then he should be held to the same requirements no more no less. I applaud the kid but he had an easier route simply because he has a diasbulity
