Many teachers make very good salaries. If you’re going to do a story, show highest paid teachers as well. For some reason, the high paid teachers are rarely mentioned.

I have been teaching for thirty years. May I ask where the high paying positions are at? I realize administrators do receive high salaries, but I am unaware of teachers who receive high wages.

What does it work out to per hour for time actually at school? Teachers seem to have endless numbers of days and weeks off.

Why only hours at school? Teachers spend hours upon hours working at home writing lesson plans and grading assignments. And then there's tons of hours outside of work spent on courses towards license recertification.

And then they have to still buy supplies out of there own pocket for there students.

She's right. It's astonishing how critical these comments are. Some even suggest teachers are asking for handouts or aren't deserving of more. If we aren't going to pay teachers more, at least pay for their education so the little money they make goes towards their households.

Teachers must be well trained and well paid. Education of our children is the only protection we have of a bright future for the world. The impact teachers have on these young minds lasts a life time. Only the best will do. We must pay to attract the best talent!

In my district in NY teachers are guaranteed 3% raises every year, can become tenured and have no requirement to participate in anything outside of school hours. Also in NY, only 40% of HS graduates are determined to be prepared for college. 🤷‍♀️

So, there will always be people living below the poverty line because it's fate? And we should do nothing to try and improve that?

Not every teacher is a good teacher. Parochial school teachers barely make minimum wage and yet consistently produce students who excel. Why? They teach because they love it, not because of the bennies. Don't mistake higher pay with higher quality.

Just like you can't assume more public school funding will produce better students. Using your NYC example, 40% college readiness is what the highest funded school system in the nation produces.
