        No. But it does help when you don't have to worry about affording surgery or the drugs. Most likely he got private health care when his research garnered more attention cos he could afford it, but his early ALS or MND was looked at by universal health care

        It definitely helps if you have money, I saw an article say scientists believe he lived so long because he developed ALS in his 20s, so it affected his body and mindset differently than the normal person who develops it.

        Probably all the things you are pointing out helped, but Dr. Hawking probably is the most notable example of how long a person with ALS can live. An inspiration for humanity he was.
