“This was a tragic accident that should never have occurred, as pets should never be placed in the overhead bin,” United spokeswoman Maggie Schmerin said in a statement.https://usat.ly/2Io23tb

Apologize? Where was the owner? They wouldn’t put my dog in the bin.

She had an infant & small child. She'd probably seen videos where ppl were dragged off roughly.

Saving money by not training your staff properly is not an accident @united

Excellent comment! I wrote last year they needed training when they called security to drag an older man out of his seat by his feet. His head bumped on the seat, then the floor as they dragged him out the plane. And later the tone-deaf CEO thanked his employees for a good job!

Wait. Is there a new definition accident that I am unaware of? Placing a live animal in an overhead bin doesn't happen by *accident. Ignoring it's calls of distress does not happen by *accident.

I said yesterday they would have had to call an air marshall on me. I would not even as a fellow passenger allowed this. The blame is on both

I'm with you. My pet does not get stuffed into an overhead bin like a friggin handbag - simple solution: remove pet/leave plane. Document entire incident, expose United and it's employee.

There is absolutely no excuse for this. So sad and tragic. What on earth was that attendant thinking? Feel so bad for the pet owner. I know flight attendants work hard but really...a dog in the overhead bin? #IWearRed

If a flight attendant doesn't know that stowing a puppy in an overhead bin is life-threatening, how could you trust that flight attendant with human lives???

And yet it did... and it isn’t the first time, @united. You have gone from a top airline to one nobody trusts anymore. No cheap flights is worth the treatment you put people through. I’m so done with @united.
