@CommunityUnion @TomBlenkinsop This seems like a sensible way to tackle world overcapacity.Let 's reopen an old inefficient blast furnace and punish other economies for being more efficient. @Wi97665669Chris

Being objective, he's trying to protect the USA. We've been silly enough to make ourselves vulnerable to his actions.
-
That would be valid, if in the main their steel was solely their own. All he is doing is making them more insular and putting existing markets at risk.
-
And the Bush 2002 Tariffs were a domestic catastrophe.

If you need tariffs to function you are a failure. Quit bailing out spoiled rich people. America has had enough of that..

I guess that means coal burning is going to resume? There's a way to melt steel using magnets I saw on Facebook the other day. I hope that method is used, but won't hold my breath.

If we're to reverse the downslide and revive American manufacturing we have to start somewhere. Business has not had that incentive for a long time. Nothing good comes easy but unless we want to resign ourselves to being just a service economy, we have to do it.

Ok experts, we need your input. Is this really going to work? What are the pros and cons in the long term?

I hope manufacturing jobs are coming back to the us, but after the last 20-30 years I'm not so sure.
