When the students heard gunshots, about 15 of them froze before racing back to the classroom. Math teacher Jim Gard, however, had locked the door and refused to let them in. https://usat.ly/2I2wLaX  #ParklandShooting

It is true that you're told not to open the door. HOWEVER, he should've let the students back in the room. He knew his students right?

What if a student is the shooter? How does teacher know whether the student outside the door is seeking asylum or has a gun? Teachers are trained to not unlock the door for anyone

That's tough when you only have 6 of your students in the class. All the others in hall are shooters?

In most active shooter training you’re taught to get the door closed. This teacher most likely did what he had been trained to do. In all the failures that happen in Florida, this is not one of them.

This teacher 👨‍🏫 made a decision that turned out to be flawed and greatly increased risk of death for students. His judgment was very bad in a time of crisis. Arming teachers would not be wise. #banAssaultRifles #NRABloodMoney #Parkland #DaltonHighSchool #MomsDemandAction

Never ever accept interviews or the title of hero, if there's a chance you did something, some might see as shady, or horrible

What if this teacher was armed...his fright could have produced more panic.

If trained combat soldiers become confused in the fog of war why do we expect any different from teachers.
