Two of the things that mystify me: Poor people voting for Republicans; workers rejecting union representation. Back to the eternal question: why do people vote against their self-interest?

Because race/creed/culture fears are stronger with working-class whites than is class solidarity. See also: Southern Strategy, the 50-year-old GOP effort where whites are convinced to cut rich folks' taxes as a way to cut programs they think help POC.

the problem is not "unions" it is government unions that have a monopoly and do not have to compete. That is wrong, immoral and has totally destroyed Illinois.

Very biased article which forgets you have a right to work without paying for that right. You also have a right to free speech & not paying for it either. You don’t have to be represented by a union for upward mobility cause that’s based on merit & performance.
-
Some slick anti-union sentiment there, inferring that unions = people didn’t earn their positions based on merit. at most, unions require due process for firing - meaning the company needs to show they have cause. But that’s not true of every union.
-
Also, people sign rep cards and vote for union representation at a particular shop. You can also vote the company /out/ of being a union shop the same way. Stop acting like workers have no power in union workplaces - the workers ARE the union.
-
Union membership means we have a shot at fighting against stagnating wages. It means we have power to negotiate basic standards together, against a corporation that is bigger than one person. Proud to be Local 839.
-
This case is for government unions, not unions in the private sector. It allows people to choose whether to join or not, not forced to have the job.
-
You don't have to "join" a public sector union - you just have to pay the "fair share" fees that pay for the union to bargain for wages, healthcare, retirement, workplace conditions, etc on your behalf.
-
You can bargain for yourself, the so called fair share has been proven to be inflated. Freedom to choose is a right, no one should have to pay for a job.

I thought reporting was supposed to be impartial.

It's an Op-Ed Column, not a reported story. That's why the fucking tweet says "Column."
-
Nice. Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?
-
Shall I go through your tweets and look for the cuss words, Boris? Or should I just settle for your tacit admission that you either really don't know the difference between an opinion piece and a news story, or are just a dishonest would-be deflector?

Without unions, we’re slaves to the big corporations.

This is a dangerous power grab by corporations to weaken the rights of the people.
