Why is it that a half-century ago, when nearly all rural county high school teenage boys owned a hunting rifle or had one at home, there were no mass shootings in high schools or anywhere else? What changed?

Yes, let's have legislators fund research for these answers. Unfortunately, GOP voted against that. This ignoring of the issue is why it's hard to see answers like "mental health + let's do nothing" as anything other than more avoidance. Action is needed! Good for these students!

GOP doesn’t decide academic research. Michael Bloomberg could fund gun research into why there were no teenage mass shootings of public high schools decades ago when most county teens owned guns. But one suspects he wouldn’t want to know the findings.

Stop using people who's brains aren't even finished growing, as propaganda tools. Tell them our law enforcement CHOSE to ignore reports that could have prevented this. Citizens saw something & said something. The people paid to protect us allowed evil to kill our children.
