Actually many African Americans are tired of the slave narrative. As if we did not exist before the 16th century.

Please cite the poll where that information came from. But you are right. We should not discuss black people just as it relates to history. But that has nothing to do with the fact that a conversation about slavery is necessary.

I site Dr. John Henrik Clark, Chancellor Williams and others who didn't limit their scholarship to post 17th century
-
And I cite for you Dr. John Henrik Clark and his piece "The African Holocaust- The Slave Trade." He never advocated ending discussion of U.S. slavery. He advocated placing it in the larger context of history, which cannot be done if it is ignored. He also recommended these books:pic.twitter.com/fx4t2KmLnn

It’s more like why black
people cannot get over slavery. Always looking to rewrite history. Every other country with slave ancestors have moved on. - 1 more reply

Because slavery's tentacles reach across the centuries and are alive today. It reveals itself in INEQUALITY in education, employment, health, voting rights, the judicial system, police excess, which makes one side unwilling to face their role in perpetrating modern day slavery.

If the discussion does not end with a call for Reparations, what's left to talk about ?
-
Why are you so afraid of the discussion?
-
No disrespect to your fine article. But how much is taught about slavery vs pre-slavery. Again no diss to your piece
-
That's no diss. That's the problem. Imagine if all children were taught all history. Then kids wouldn't automatically see black as inferior and people wouldn't be surprised that slaves built the White House. /1

I reread your article. I think you are saying that we need to discuss it outside of the mundane, usual, appeal to white guilt manner? I totally agree and I am on your side..

Thanks for your willingness! And please get my book
#TheBurden. Not shilling (well not totally). I just think it might be enlightening. http://www.wsupress.wayne.edu/books/detail/burden …
