Benjamin Attinger addressed his 11-year-old student’s letter to Hillary Clinton as "HILIAR RODHAM CLINTON," saying it was "kind of a joke." The sixth grader didn't see it that way.https://usat.ly/2nwxS9s

It wasn't his letter to add his views to, it was a student trying to reach out to someone she respects. By adding his political views to her letter he tainted what the contents were, and would have most likely her letter put in a pile Hillary would not have read. Bad teacher!

Why didn't the kid address their own letter? Or the parent?

What a pitiful attempt to twist this into the fault of the child or parents.

I would’ve insisted my child be removed to another teacher’s classroom. This one proved himself untrustworthy. You have to trust the adults caring for your children.

I would be pissed too. As a teacher your job is to teach them and if you want to be political you should NOT demean either side and make sure to point out the flaws on all sides. They are there to teach so they should do their job.

Oh I would be doing that too, all the way up the ladder would hear me. I’m just saying I don’t agree that politics doesn’t belong in the classroom, I just that their bias shouldn’t come into it. They should be the neutral party that allows the kids to think for themselves.

Because it demonstrates how low we have sunk in our inability to be objective and professional, no matter what the expectations of the role we are in

Really? We all need to be reminded of that? And “how low we’ve sunk”??? Childish antics by humans are certainly nothing new. But now, due to the report-anything-that’ll-rile-then-up “journalism” in our faces, it sometimes feels that way.

Doesn’t seem to. But yeah, it should happen on a local level for these types of things...just so locals are aware of who’s in their immediate community. Not sure if always-on global news cycles are a pro or con...but I lean towards con.

Freedom of speech, right? That's what that teacher in California said about his anti-military tirade where he called our troops "Lowest of the low".

More importantly, why couldn't an 11 year old address a letter on her own? Furthermore if a similar situation existed with a derogatory addressed letter being sent to President Trump.... there would be no outrage whatsoever.
