This is a complete violation of people’s rights. I took a gap year between high school and college and it was the best thing I ever did. In my case, what I needed was NOT to have plans—I needed room to breathe before deciding what to do. Let’s get loud in protesting this!!!

Would be nicer if bill required test to insure 12th grade skills. According to NCES, 62% of college bound do not.

No! This is not a good thing. Success in college takes sheer grit, determination, and lots of personal motivation. Without these factors one is forcing high cost on individuals, enforcing extreme frustration; a sure petri dish for disaster. College is NOT for everyone.

Crappy, inaccurate headline. Article says bill would require plans - voc training, military, 2 or 4-yr college, gap yr., etc. You know, mapped out guidance counseling.

You shouldn’t have to force a kid to apply for college. But the kid should want to go to college. These days it’s hard to get a job decent job without even an associates degree.

Juniors must apply to at least one two- or four-year college. Exceptions would be made for those who can prove they have committed to military service, a vocational program, or work upon graduation in an apprenticeship or internship.

I don’t think they mean everyone goes to college but rather presents a vocational option, military, Peace Corp, employment. It’s future planning.

Huh good intentions but sounds like government over reach. Don’t know how it’s their business. People should rethink this sorta thing
