People need to pay rent, bills, food, transportation to/from 2-3 jobs, healthcare, childcare, etc. People want to save money, but it’s not realistic for the vast majority of people anymore. So what gives with this tone-deaf, out-dated and utterly unhelpful advice?

This isn't unhelpful at all. Hold yourself accountable and use smart decision-making to get to a better place. It's there for the taking if you want to work for it.

Lol more old-white-man bullshit to spray on the fire? Like we aren’t drowning in exorbitant income inequality, like everyone has access to opportunities & upward mobility. “It’s there for the taking” while people are dying working for it. 😹

I work for a very successful company led by a woman. Over 80% of the leadership in my group is female. They overcome what you refer to everyday. They don't make excuses and worry about what they can control. You can do the same, or continue complaining and never improve.

Thank you @USATODAY for making me hypertense in the new year and reminding me I really did not need new boots in my 20’s when my money had value. I should have SAVED!

Aww FV of money. Think of a 30yr old if they invested their tax cut. What would that be about $350,000k

Very few make it to retirement and even so, their health has usually declined and they don't feel like doing anything much less enjoy the money they have saved. I guess it's important to enjoy now!
