I like the ingenuity of the Memphis mayor. But why is it so controversial to take down a statue of the first leader of the kkk. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest had 300 African American Union soldiers executed after they were captured. Preserving evil is not always good.

Yankees executed confederate soldiers that were captured.. Murder is Murder no matter if it's by good or bad people

The civil war was a very dark period in American history. My question given the known atrocities, why is there so much animosity in removing Forrest’s statue. It was placed in this park more for intimidation than reverence.
-
No it wasnt.. it placed in the park during segregation.. the civil war wasn't about slavery, it was only about 300,000 slaves brought here.. it was either be a slave in another country,or a slave in America.. it was a slave trade,America wasn't alone in the buying...

The civil war was clearly fought over slavery. Next, you acknowledge that the statue was placed in the park during segregation but deny it was placed there to intimidate Blacks. Let’s just say, when blacks see a confederate flag or statue, reverence is not what comes to mind.

No it wasnt.. slavery was used as the excuse for Lincoln to push him communist agenda on the south.. how can the civil war be about slavery when Lincoln still had slaves in white house even after the war?.. get real dude, that lie is played out

Now Memphis needs to sell the MLK hotel to a private group and shut it down.. sons of confederate soldiers should buy it ...

If the state sold the parks, they should have to disclose how much they sold it for, the person that bought it, and the statues shouldn't have been sold cause they belonged to citizens of Tennessee, not the state..
