Business invrstments are never a sure thing. Unless you are the USPS and the American taxpayer carries your billions in losses every year. Trump knows this, he didn’t have them when he got wiped out. He made it back and now pays $40M/year in taxes. What do you pay Sam?

I don't mind that my tax dollars help keep USPS prices low. It benefits all of us. Actually, people in rural communities would be screwed if they made it more like fed ex or UPS.

I meant in the way that the federal government will not let it raise prices without their approval. If it were a private company (or publicly traded company), and were not subject to this oversight, surely the prices would be much higher

As a postal worker, I can say there's a lot of waste in the bureaucracy.... If it was a private company the stock holders would fire the mgt for all the money they waste...

Sure, and they would likely cut a lot of your benefits and pensions. Who else would deliver letters to rural places for 50 cents? If privatized they would not serve sparsely populated areas because it would be impossible to profit. The mail service is a public good- like roads

In other words, “focus on the post office, Amazon, and everybody else expect for me, and what I’m doing and SHOULDN’T be doing.” The classic deflection ploy.

Jesus he is dumb. Does he think if USPS raises prices, that amazon will just absorb the cost? No. Amazon and others would raise prices on all of us.

The taxpayer is covering a large cost of shipment. If the USPS raises rates Amazon most likely will raise rates passing the cost on to ONLY those that use that business. Not “all of us”. One would have to be insanely dumb not to understand this.

Umm.. everyone I know uses Amazon and/or some online shipping. The number of people who shop online is only growing so if you don't think that one day everyone will be using online shopping- that's pretty dumb.

Everyone will be shopping online so the USPS needs to subsidize Jeff Bezos and Amazon. Does that make any sense? Eve§ryone uses gas. Should we subsidize ExxonMobil? Everyone uses smartphones. How bout we take care of Apple’s shipping?

If anything it subsidizes the customers! If USPS increased the price of postage, Amazon would simply raise the prices. Their prices would remain the same. It's very simple

        1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
      7. Jimble Kimble‏ @damongiles1973 30 Dec 2017

Correct. And the customers using Amazon would be paying the full share of what they purchase. As of now the USPS subsidizes a substantial portion of the shipping costs. Strangers should not have to for people’s Amazon purchases.
