During the 1950s, the CIA sent several Marines to the USSR as defectors to be spies. The true reason why he deserted and defected to North Korea would be an interesting story. What happened to him there?
Was he in the army? What was his MOS/SPEC? What was the background of the Japanese woman? How did he enter North Korea without being shot? Why was he not excecuted there? Did they trust him? What was the real story, not just what was told in the media at the time?

I never met an E5 who was afraid to go to war. I just don’t believe his story. Maybe it is true? I just don’t believe it on face evidence.
Were sone desertors spies? Really deserters? What about defector Oswald? Were Angleton or Colby moles for Russia? They accused each other.
Many infantry soldiers were recruited by the CIA during the Korean War. In later years, 2 of them were case officers for the CIA in Phu Bai, posing as army mechanics. A documentary about the histories of them, Oswald, William Buckley and others would be very interesting.
