"Trump’s attendance and his hurtful policies are an insult to the people portrayed in this civil rights museum," U.S. Reps. John Lewis and Bennie Thompson said in a joint statement.https://usat.ly/2iEEYGS

I hope they cancel the opening! Until someone can speak who cares about civil rights!!!Trump has no business speaking at any event that has to do with civil rights! Phony!

What a tool. How can we ever move forward with backwards thinking like this?

Really? And the POTUS calling NFL players SOBs for trying to move the conversation forward was okay? Senator Lewis has every right not to stand next to Trump.

Of course he has the right. I just think he's wrong. You can't persuade anyone to change their mind on an issue if you're not willing to engage. Besides, Lewis' work is a big part of why the museum was built, no?

Trump would make it all about him-like he always does.

"Would"? How about Lewis actually goes to the event instead of speculating about what might happen? Also, if you consider Trump an adversary, why concede that ground to him? If Trump had refused the invite, he'd be labeled a racist again. Can't have it both ways.

JOHN LEWIS IS CORRECT, THIS EVENT SHOULD DRAW AN UNPRECEDENTED PROTEST AND MARCH IF @realDonaldTrump ATTENDS. THIS WOULD BE A SLAP IN THE FACE TO EVERY MINORITY, BLACK, LATIN, LBGTQ, AND WHITE, WHOM WILL SHORTLY BE A MINORITY AS WELL. TRUMP HAS GIVEN ALL THE FINGER WITH A SMILEpic.twitter.com/ECruR5qv3U
