The lesson is there are consequences for your actions. My generation learned respect. Something the current generation has not been taught.

I believe it's possible to teach and model respect with out hitting a child who is learning and who's brain has not fully developed.

Has anyone met a kid recently? Maybe a spanking once in a while would stop the attitudes. I also don't believe that ocassionally spanking a child will lead to a life of violence.

More than likely it was because they witnessed their own father do it to their mom, or it was done to them. Being spanked is not the same as abuse.

Ironically I've never hit my children and both are in college and have never had a run in with the law. See, I took the time to teach my children. I didn't take the easy way out and just hit them to make them do what I wanted.

You have your way of teaching and other parents have theirs. Children respond differently to certain punishments. I took the time to let mine know why they’re being spanked, and it was only a last resort.

I certainly understand that. I took the time to teach my children which behaviors were acceptable and which weren't. I never had to spank. It took a lot more work on my part, but I'm glad I did it. My children do the right thing because they were taught the right thing. Not ...
