The irony being that on Saturday we were in the car listening to a podcast touting the VA USA Healthcare system; nurse practitioner delivery saving costs. That didn’t fit the real world stories that I’d heard about VA healthcare delivery, nor my experience of NP delivered UK care

I think that NP & specialist nurses do have a role; but not in replacing doctors, without the same level of training or responsibility, accountability, if doing the same tasks. Eg a nurse failed to record cocodeine; whereas a dr or pharmacist would log drug dispensing, I think?

Not logging dispensing drugs on medical records leads to 1/ potential patient risk. 2/ drug stock not being accurate; increasing potential for unexplained theft or personal misuse of drugs by medical professionals, going unnoticed due to record inaccuracies not being challenged.
