Everyone is allowed time off to vote. An employer cannot fire you for it. And if they do, you can bury them. (But I agree, a holiday would help.)

I was salaried, could easily vote whenever i wanted - you have to consider the hundreds of thousands of people in this country who are barely making it financially, they can’t afford to take off work for several hours... voting day should be a paid holiday for EVERYONE!

Too many comfortable people in this country have no idea how difficult life is for some of our fellow citizens... I’ll never forget being dirt poor (choose b/w paying for food/rent/bills...choose 1, forget about insurance - that’s not even in the top 3)

Your employer BY LAW has to allow you time to vote. Take your phone and Twitter while you wait. This might be your only chance to vote in a real election if things don’t turn around. Please don’t make excuses. Make your voices heard. Your country needs you to participate.

I count myself lucky. Grew up with a grandfather and 3 great uncles who were in the Canadian infantry in WW II. Also had RC Legion vets lecture us at school every Nov 11 on the importance of voting. I have voted every election since I was 18 and will never miss one to my last day

If more people read history and realised what life was like before universal suffrage, and the sacrifices made by their forebearers to win it then, like you and I, they may understand what a precious gift they have been given and use it. Well done.
