Are teachers paid enough? Nearly eight in 10 said teachers have to spend too much of their own money on school supplies, according to a new poll. https://usat.ly/2x5U2nP  via @SusanPage

Like anything in life..you get what you pay for. If you want to improve the country’s educational system, you have to attract the highest quality candidates to teach our children. You have to pay them competitively or risk losing them to other career fields.

Well said! Imagine spending $100 thousand dollars to obtain a Masters of Science in special education. The school pays you $40 thousand a year to start. Taxes 10k, commute 5k, home and RE tax 20k. Can you still make the student loan payment? Eat? NOT! Oh, no raise for 5 years.

it isn't just teachers who pay for supplies. School based Occupational, speech and physical Therapists spend their own $$ on supplies and on professional development (many are contracted employees). Underpaid para educators and aides also spend $

Why in the fuck is anyone still asking the question "Are teachers paid enough?" when the answer has always been no and everyone has always known this. Since forever.

Yes they are and they retire far earlier than American workers and get almost full salary. Where does all those Billions of dollars the Lottery make which claim to go towards Education? Schools bloated spending is the Problem They need a Fiscal overhaul not more money 4 teachers

We will never be paid enough. People will always say we don’t work summers, why should we get paid. I AM A TEACHER AND I HAVE WORKED EVERY SUMMER SINCE I STARTED. People who don’t understand, sure love to give their opinion about how we shouldn’t be paid more.

Nope, it stayed at $250 I guess. That is a pitiful amount and I would bet most teachers spend far more on classroom supplies throughout the year.

Change the laws. Let millage $ be partially used for in school equipment and supplies.

When you pro-rate their salary based on the part time work that they do I would say they are paid plenty. Anyone working mom, who has to deal with childcare issues for all the days off on the school, calander will probably agree.

NJ’s Hudson county haven’t seen a raise in 7 years! Shame on the Jersey City Board of Education! The county is densely populated with a significant portion below the poverty line. Per Capita in nearby Bergen County is $75k. In Jersey City, teachers with MSEd earn less than $50k!
